                                           20 Years of Dreams for Kids

Dreams for Kids began on Christmas Eve, 1989, on the Southside of Chicago. A single outreach to 54 kids living in a small homeless shelter called Clara’s House has grown to become a global youth organization which has changed over 150,000 lives.
On Friday October 16th, 2009, at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium, Dreams for Kids celebrates its historic past and unveils plans to fuel a youth movement which is already changing the world.
 
Event Chair, Chicago Blackhawk’s Chairman, Rocky Wirtz and his players join Dreams for Kids Founder and President, Tom Tuohy, to kick off an unforgettable night with Founding Advisory Chair Secretary of State Jesse White and his world famous high flying Tumblers, the legendary Shannon Rovers Bagpipe Band, blues great Liz Mandevelle and the Blue Points, and Chicago’s renown Irish singer Catherine O’Connell.
 
                                             What is Dreams for Kids?
  • Founded Holiday for Hope, the world’s largest holiday celebration for homeless and underprivileged kids, to be held in over 50 countries this December.
  • Created Extreme Recess, the first adaptive sports and activities program of its kind for kids with disabilities.
  • Launched the global Dream Leaders program to empower the most isolated kids in the world – those who are poor and those with disabilities – and to unite them to their diverse peers and to local and global community service projects. 
“In 20 years we have given kids hope, recognized ability over disability, and reminded a generation that their contributions will change the world,” said Dreams for Kids President and Founder Tom Tuohy.
