Listening Closely @ Chicago Hearing Society

In the second unit of the Light, Sound, and Time class, the Juniors have been pursuing the question, what is sound?. In pursuit of an answer, students examined the role that hearing plays in their lives and identified differences and similarities between the concepts, silence, noise, sound, and music.  In addition to studying those concepts, students have also investigated the components of sound, how it travels, and how it is measured.  The Juniors visited the Chicago Hearing Society (CHS), an organization that provides programs and services that improve the lives of deaf and hard of hearing individuals, to gain a fresh perspective and appreciation for our sense of hearing.

Why?

The purpose of this FE is to gain a fresh perspective and appreciation for our sense of hearing and learn more about options and solutions for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

How?

Students will engage with people in the deaf and hard of hearing community to understand their relationships with sound and to gain some insight into how they interact and connect with the world around them.
