Analyzing Water at Plant Chicago

First-year students in the Water class embarked on a Field Experience to Plant Chicago to meet with Education Manager, Rock Evans. In the first unit, students collected water from the Chicago River which they will filter using a filtration system that they will design and build. Students explored Plant Chicago’s two aquaponic systems to see a closed-loop filtration system in action. They also tested the water from the aquaponic systems for levels of ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, and pH as preparation for testing the water that’ll go through their filtration system.
