Better Design with Greater Good Studio

Juniors in Design & Engineering are pursuing the guiding question, How does the design process impact product and experience?. The students are investigating the design of gardening tools, and the importance of empathy in design to promote inclusivity and equity. They are challenged to redesign gardening tools to better suit the needs of senior citizens. They presented their ideas to designers Kyle Newton and Rose Tarullo from Greater Good Studio, a consulting firm committed to making the world a better place through human-centered design. The students embraced Kyle’s tip to hold on to ideas loosely by sharing their rough sketches and initial brainstorms and welcoming feedback.

Why?

The purpose of this Field Experience to see what it’s like being a professional designer, and learn from their process.

How?

The students practiced the feedback cycle crucial to the design process and pitched their initial gardening tool design to the visiting experts.
