Tasting coffee’s origins with Metropolis Coffee!

The Food For Thought course re-directs our investigations from the interior of the self back into the world that formed our selves, with particular focus on the way our food — how we find it, grow it, nurture it, store it, and distribute it — has given rise to the structures of the world most of us take for granted today. According to many of the experts we will encounter this term, there is no history that is not a history of food.

Our first Field Experience for this curriculum takes us to the roastery of Metropolis Coffee — a Chicago coffee roaster and distributor. We visit Metropolis in order to start exploring the journeys our food takes before it hits our palates (and our stomachs), and along the way, we will taste some coffee.
