Visual Storytelling at the Poetry Foundation

Sophomores in the Stories class found sanctuary from the bustling city at the Poetry Foundation. In this course, students examine how we can shape stories through language, perspective, and different modes of communication. They visited Monica Ong’s visual poems from the Planetaria exhibit at the Poetry Foundation. She playfully takes poetry off the page as handheld volvelles, broadsides, and installations. Monica’s work examines the power struggles that myth-making elicits, a notion that the students reflected on as they created original mythological creatures.
